About Us
Albert Rodriguez
Born and raised in the Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico, Albert developed early on an affinity for the rustic, savory, and complex flavors of the Caribbean. He began cooking alongside his mother at age 11 and has been experimenting and creating flavor combinations since then. His passion has been to explore the culinary techniques and traditions of the Caribbean, Central America, South America, and Asia. While opening his own restaurant in Buckhead, GA, in 2004, he developed his own blend of herbs and spices which best represented the rustic flavors he looked to recreate from his Island home. Albert has since worked as Chef and Restaurant Consultant. He has been refining his spice recipes since then, using it in his own cooking while entertaining friends, family, and clients. After years of prompting from many of those friends, family, and clients, Albert has decided to share his blend of spices with the world in four offerings.
Then came the issue of branding of the spices. After long debates and discussions trying to find a word that would best capture the emotive reactions that everyone who’s tried these spices have had. After several days of discussions Bianca, Albert’s wife calls him and says, WEPA! Wepa is a word used frequently among Puerto Ricans to show excitement and joy. It is a word that truly captures the essence of the Caribbean.
